Best Friend

Wikipedia describes a best friend as: someone with whom one shares the strongest possible kind of friendship.

Friendship is unconditional loyalty and love. A bond of steadfastness and acceptance that allows us to be who we are, fully, without fear that love will be withdrawn.

German Shepherds can make loyal and loving pets inside the home. The breed has a personality marked by direct, fearless willingness to protect what it considers its "den" (i.e. house, car, and property in a home situation) and "pack" (i.e. human family in a home situation).

Dolly (German shepherd/husky mix) joined our family in 1998 as a puppy. Shortly after joining us on the farm, Dolly earned her way into our hearts by saving our lives when in a matter of moments our dairy barn was engulfed in flames one hot night in July. Since Dolly was put to bed each night in the barn, it was her barking that woke us up and we called the fire department before we lost the house & machine shed. The cattle were out of the barn since it was summer time, but unfortunately we did lose the barn.

Dolly has also become my faithful walking partner, always willing to walk when I want and if I am too tired some night she is willing to just sit by my side, until the next time.
I believe that true friends will welcome each other's company and no matter how much time has passed are willing to set everything aside and share in the time that's given.

Can you be best friends with a dog? According to the description of wikipedia I think so.

Issues

I have been having issues with our Internet connection at home. It's still not fixed and I've become to realize that I am somewhat addicted to the Internet. I like to check my e-mail, facebook account, make sure my on-line banking is up-to-date with my cheque book and I enjoy perusing my friends' blogs.......... daily. I said I was addicted. ^.^

Not having Internet access at home has made me realize how much more time I am able to give to other things now - read a book, clean-up the house, go for walks.... time usually spent on the computer.

I get so tired of hearing people complain that they do not have time for some things. In my opinion it's all a matter of priorities, you make time for what's important to you - whether it's building relationships, learning a new skill, or sitting in front of the t.v. or computer. We all have the same 24 hours each day. No more – No less. Using time effectively is about creating balance and working more productively rather than just being busy.

This is one of my favourite passages, from Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 (New International Version)
A Time for Everything
There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.

Time is a precious commodity - what are you willing to trade for it?

Roadside Treasure

A weed is described as A plant considered undesirable, unattractive, or troublesome, especially one growing where it is not wanted.
I came across these flowers one night as I was taking my daily walk. They were growing randomly along the roadside. I decided to pick a few to bring home so I could enjoy their beauty. I think they are a phlox of some kind.

Now I'm sure sure some people would walk/drive on by thinking nothing more of these flowers than being mere weeds or another way to describe it could be misplaced something put in a different place from where it should be.

It's interesting though, that when they are put in a vase how they can become a beautiful centrepiece.

It's all a matter of perspective or perception. These flowers growing along the roadside would normally be passed over because of their misplacement, but when someone takes the time to put them in different place they're regarded differently.

I guess the old adage "one persons' junk in another persons' treasure" is true.
