Story Telling

When I was over at Krystle & Gerard's apartment I suddenly remembered something that I didn't want to forget so I asked Gerard to e-mail the reminder to me. When I opened the reminder e-mail, this is what I found:
Once upon a time there was a boy named Gerard, and he was supposed to tell someone a certain location in which they were to google. But that little boy Gerard forgot where he was supposed to tell that person to google. So he got very frightened, frightened that he would get in trouble, by the big scary, google maps fairy. She was a mean lady. She bonked people with google maps. And they hurt.

SO Gerard ran away and cried! He ran as far away as he could. BUT, then he was in deep deep trouble, because this was the google maps fairy he was running from. SHE CAN SEE EVERYWHERE!! (with her maps and such). So he went to the google maps fairy, face to face. He went to apologize, and when she went to slap him with a google map, he kicked her in the shins! And yelled, "Google maps fairy, no more Google Map Bonking!" Then Gerard slapped her with a Ink Pad, and chucked scissors at her, and the Google Maps Fairy was no more. Hallelujah!

He saved the Day! Everyone was so happy, because now they could google map things in peace, without having the fear of the GMF (Google Maps Fairy) anymore. The local townspeople named Gerard the new Official Google Maps King, and he could help everybody find where they needed to go. The ladies loved him. What a hunk!

Once Gerard was named the OGMK (Official Google Maps King), he remembered where he was supposed to tell that certain someone where they were supposed to google. It was Orillia! (the back way of course)

Wow, what would we do without him. THE END.
This totally made my day!

Falling Behind

OK, before I begin I must admit I like the intended pun of the title of this post ~ it's frightfully accurate.

Wayne & I are business owners where we share the multiple tasks of running the business together. I, however am the lucky individual who does the bookwork. But as of late, I've gotten a few months (OK, I haven't actually started 2010) behind in keeping the books up to date. Normally I love 'doing' the books. I get excited balancing to the exact penny, even thought the accountant says I don't need to. But here I sit at the computer and while I should be doing bookwork I am totally distracted by blogging, facebook, googling and anything else I can do to prevent me from starting. Who'd have thought that I was a procrastinator ... . .. mhmm maybe I should go and get the mail. {smirk}

Decompress

Every once in a while I need a day or sometimes two to decompress. The World English Dictionary describes it: (diːkəmˈprɛs) — vb 1. to relieve (a substance) of pressure or (of a substance) to be relieved of pressure.

It wasn't until a few years ago I realized how much I needed time away from everything so I could make time for me. For the longest time I always felt selfish/guilty for taking time for just me. Most of us moms know that time for us usually gets put to the back burner, as we're usually putting our loved ones first. We're great for giving everyone what they need and even sometimes what they want that we too often end up neglecting ourselves.

As I came to realize that for me to do my 'job' well I needed time to decompress. Normally I do this with journaling, as I think we owe it to ourselves to make some record of our lives. I hate the idea of waste in general, and I know how much of my time, how many thoughts, ideas, and memories, would be lost forever if I didn't write at least some of it down. Consequently, I have written journals on and off for around 15 years now. Sure, life isn't all roses, and a journal can be a useful medium for sounding off about the world and working off your everyday frustrations.
But today I found that sitting quietly with my journal didn't just cut it; so I took some much needed time and got away from the normal routine, away from everything, and had some "me time".

Getting Decked!

Recently, I posted on my facebook status that "Anita Gingerich just got decked". One person who knew what I meant clicked on the "like this" button. Another person not knowing what was meant commented with great concern about my well being. You just gotta love the English language. But that's not the point of this post.

We built a gazebo last fall in preparation for Krystle & Gerard's wedding, knowing that after the wedding we'd move it into it's permanent place. Last week Mike Z started building the deck and attaching the gazebo to finish it off. It took 3 guys with 3 tractors all morning to get the gazebo in it's proper place. In one short week it was finished, so I took a walk around and got some photos.
Looking out from under the veranda. Walking around the outside. A new seating area - one I am super excited to use! The platform steps. And the end - this is where the hot tub is going - yeppers finally convinced him ^.^ ahhh I LOVE IT!

Turning the page

For a little while now I've been feeling a bit 'betwixt and between'? I'm sure it's because of this 'empty nest syndrome', that I recently have been faced with. Suddenly it seems that the way I used to define myself, my life, no longer makes sense. It seems that I am experiencing an ending. And while I realize that I am not the first, nor will I be the last women on this journey, it sometimes feels like I am alone in this.

We’re all on a journey, I guess, but my journey has taken me into territory that even though I knew it was coming and perhaps even looking forward to, I'm still struggling through the process. And now that I am here I wish to go back; because going forward is unknown and it's somewhere I've never been. I've a feeling of being in ..... Limbo, which can be an uncomfortable place. It's a feeling of being on a winding path that is heading somewhere but nowhere close to being finished. At least it means there IS a forward motion in effect, a transition of sorts to new beginnings.

To help me prepare for this "The Next Chapter" of my life journey I've been journaling in hopes of understanding the transition process. Keeping myself to busy could undermine the processing, because it's in the reflection and contemplation that I am able to stop spinning my wheels long enough to examine the overflow of my heart and take my "spiritual temperature," so to speak.

Lectio Divina

Heart to Heart is a women's ministry offered at the Zurich Mennonite church. It's open to all women, young, old, married, single, with or without kids. Each season (fall & spring) the committee plans faith studies during the 1st hour, and craft electives for the 2nd hour with a half-hour coffee break in between. It's a great opportunity to connect with many different women, it's open for any women that are able to go.

Joining this year was a big step for me, as I hadn't been a apart of this ministry since I started my job. The Lectio Divina faith elective that was offered though really caught my attention. What is Lectio? I hear you asking..... Wikipedia describes it ~ Lectio Divina is Latin for divine reading, spiritual reading, or "holy reading," and represents a traditional Christian practice of prayer and scriptural reading intended to promote communion with God and to increase in the knowledge of God's Word. It is a way of praying with Scripture that calls one to study, ponder, listen and, finally, pray and even sing and rejoice from God's Word, within the soul. It's an art that begins with cultivating the ability to listen deeply, to hear “with the ear of our hearts”. In order to hear someone speaking softly we must learn to be silent. We must learn to love silence. If we are constantly speaking or if we are surrounded with noise, we cannot hear gentle sounds. The practice of Lectio Divina, therefore, requires that we first quiet down in order to hear God's word to us.

The outcome or so I'm hoping for me is that, I have a deeper knowledge of scripture, of myself, of others and God, and to see all these in gradually increasing light of my faith.

?Monday?

As I was perusing over my blog, I noticed that I seldom seem to blog on Mondays. I'm not anti-Monday or anything, in fact I really like them. No, there not my favourite day, but still..... I think it might be that I'm not often on the computer on Mondays. You see, Mondays are my day at home; to do laundry (although without the kids living here I am now looking for clothes to wash), baking (again without kids here, there doesn't seem to be much point), cleaning (the house really doesn't get too dirty with just two of us).

But with all the changes that "life" has given me in the past few months, I'm still trying to figure out a new routine. I found this from another friend's blog. Ironically it was on the exact day I needed to read it too.

So there you have it, my Monday blog - nothing profound or anything, but I felt I ought to show Monday there were no hard feelings. >.<
